About the database

How do I contact the helpline?
You can email the National Packaging Waste Database helpline on packaging@environment-agency.gov.uk  or call 03708 506 506.

How do I become a database user?
Ask the ‘administrator’ (super user) for the National Packaging Waste Database within your organisation to sign you up as a user. They will allocate you a user name and password. An administrator can enter data and set up additional users for the organisation, while a standard user can only enter data.

How do I become the administrator for my organisation?
To become the NPWD administrator for your organisation, contact the agency to which your organisation is accredited (Environment Agency/SEPA/NIEA/Natural Resources Wales).

How many users can my organisation have?
Your organisation can have as many user accounts as it likes. Accounts for standard users are set up by the appointed administrator for the National Packaging Waste Database within an organisation.

What do I do if I’ve forgotten my user name and/or password?
Contact the administrator for the National Packaging Waste Database within your organisation. You can use the 'Forgotten username', 'Forgotten password' or 'Forgotten PIN' features to retrieve you username or reset your password or PIN.

Will my company’s data remain confidential?
NPWD has been developed to include high standards of computer security. The level of confidentiality is the same, if not higher, than with the previous paper based processes.

More specifically, any information submitted through this site will be considered as "commercially confidential" in line with the policy of the Environment Agency, SEPA, NIEA, Natural Resources Wales and Defra. It should be noted that commercially confidential information (either paper or electronic) is still subject to the Freedom of Information Act and the Environmental Information Regulations and the Agencies may be required to release such information if they receive a formal request.

Please also see Item 7 of Terms and Conditions.

Can I access my submitted data?
You can enter, amend and save data at any time during input prior to submitting the report. You can access previously submitted data. Data will be kept in accordance with our standard information retention policy.

Can I change incorrect information once I’ve submitted my return?
Yes but you will have to contact your environmental regulator and ask them to 'reject' your return. You can then correct the return and re-submit it.

Where can I get help about submitting data to the database?

If you have any problems submitting data or any queries about using the website, email packaging@environment-agency.gov.uk or call the helpline on 03708 506 506.

Where can I find out more about the Packaging Waste Regulations?
Visit News and Guidance.

Who is responsible for the database?
The Environment Agency has overall responsibility for the development of the National Packaging Waste Database.
